SAVE YOUR MONEY, TIME, AND RESPIRATORY HEALTH!!!!!!!
Beware to anyone with athsma! The highly unpleasant fumes that are emitted when crayons are melted are overpowering, acrid, and undoubtedly full of toxins. What kind of chemicals are in crayons that they off-gas so badly when melted, one has to wonder. This machine stinks up your whole house. The crayons that are produced by this machine barely 2 inches long, not full-sized like you would expect, so they are just as difficult to use as the broken crayons you would be attempting to recycle in the first place. The lever mechanism for tipping the melted wax into the mold is faulty, causing the tray to tilt and fall to one side, impeding the proper pouring of the wax. I usually have to use a skewer or other long pointy tool to reach through the vent in the locking top to realign the tray so the crayon wax will pour properly. Crayola devoted more resources to the safety features of this toy than the actual functionality. It doesn't work very well but the locking mechanism on the cover completely keeps the kids from burning themselves before the timer runs out. Which means you can't get to your newly minted crayons for almost 20 minutes. This toy requires a special chandelier lightbulb, so if you don't have any of these handy, you will have to make a special trip to the store just to get one before your kid can play with it. If you are kid thinking this is a fun toy, it really is not. It's more of a hassle than fun. I have kept ours because my son loves it but everytime I let him use it it stinks the house up horribly. It is going in the dumpster today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Get some Crayola modeling compound instead-that stuff is great!]

nice idea, but small on crayons
This toy is sitting in my upstairs attic. We played with it once. The smell was not pleasant, but I did not expect melting crayons to smell great. Biggest complaint was that the newly made crayons are two small half pieces held together with a plastic connector. The kids were ages 5 and 7. We thought using old crayons to make new "crazy crayons" would be great. When we tried to use the crayons the connector didn't keep it together and the crayola crayons worked much better as the original. The re-crayons were not coloring as well, no crazy colors like we expected. I was sadly disappointed. I love crayola, but buy your own molds and melt them down in bigger batches.
