Walhi founded on October 15, 1980 as a reaction to and concern for the injustice in the management of natural resources and the sources of life, as a result of the paradigm and development process sustainable and impartial justice. WALHI is a forum of civil society groups consisting of non-governmental organizations (NGOs / NGO), Nature Lovers Group (KPA) and the Group of Governmental Organization (CBOs).
WALHI present in 26 provinces with 436 member organizations. WALHI organization now has 436 members (June 2005), who actively campaigned in the local and national level. At the international level, through a network of campaigning WALHI Friends of the Earth International is composed of 71 grassroots organizations in 70 countries, 15 affiliate organizations, and more than 1 million individual members.
